Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker has revealed that Netflix has ordered an eighth season of the dystopian drama.
The six-episode seventh season was released on the streamer last April and earned three nominations at last weekend’s Golden Globes ceremony.
Speaking to Tudum about the show’s future, Brooker disclosed: “Well, luckily it does have a future, so I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it.
“So, that’s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.”
In addition to working on the eighth season, Brooker is also developing a separate new series for Netflix – although details remain thin on the ground.
“There’s definitely something I’m not saying about it at the moment just yet,” Brooker continued. “I can’t even tell you what it’s called yet, but it’s very much not Black Mirror. I can say that.
“It’s a very, very different thing. The most detective show of all time. It’s a deeply profound and profoundly serious crime thriller.”
A release date for Black Mirror season eight has yet to be confirmed, although based on previous production patterns, a release at some point in 2027 appears likely.
