Extended cut of Tennant-Piper Doctor Who story to be released in cinemas

An extended cut of the Doctor Who season two story ‘The Satan Pit’ is to be released in cinemas for one night only in November.

First broadcast in 2006, the story comprises two episodes – ‘The Impossible Planet’ and ‘The Satan Pit’ – and stars David Tennant as The Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler.

In the plot, the pair visit a planet orbiting a black hole, where a creature known as ‘The Beast’ is being held captive down a deep pit.

While The Doctor investigates, Rose teams up with a group of human explorers as they attempt to escape the planet and thwart off the Beast-possessed Ood.

The special screening combines both episodes into a new cinematic cut and includes both deleted scenes and never-before-seen footage, as well as a new interview with director and producer James Strong.

The Satan Pit will be screened in more than 1,000 cinemas across the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada, US and New Zealand on November 23, aka ‘Doctor Who Day’, marking the anniversary of the first episode being broadcast in 1963.
