Vanessa Squire in The Apprentice S20E05 / BBC
Vanessa Tetteh-Squire has insisted that Lord Sugar made the wrong decision in firing her after this week’s task in The Apprentice.
As Project Manager, Vanessa took the fall after her team were comprehensively defeated in a task that required them to buy and sell flowers for profit.
“I was gutted. Absolutely gutted,” Vanessa – owner of a fashion brand – recalled of her exit. “I don’t believe it was my time to go. I kind of just feel like my fate was already decided from when I put myself up because nobody else wanted the job, and we know from Apprentice history that the PM will always get the blame should anything go wrong.”
“I don’t believe it was my time to go whatsoever,” she continued. “I’m a very hard-working individual and I’ve done that consistently throughout the weeks. It’s just a shame that taking a risk wasn’t shown as me taking a risk.”
Asked what she had learned, she replied: “I have learnt that I am always right. Whenever I said something, it was because usually I saw things for what they were. I have learnt to stick to my guns and stick to who I am, even if my risks were not appreciated, to never stop taking risks in life because you really never know what is on the other side of risks. So, I learnt, if anything, I am definitely sure of who I am.
The Apprentice continues Thursdays at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
