Beverley Callard for I'm A Celebrity... South Africa S2 / ITV
Beverley Callard has revealed that she was forced to pull out of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa after losing consciousness in the Bush Telegraph.
In last night’s episode, the former Coronation Street actress, 69, was seen tearfully telling her campmates that she had to leave the show on doctor’s orders.
The series was filmed in South Africa last September and since then she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is receiving ongoing treatment.
Taking to Instagram last night, Callard told fans: “Well, I’ve just watched my exit on I’m A Celeb and it made me cry all over again because of course I didn’t know then that I had cancer. But I just knew that it was the last couple of days there that I’d not felt very well.
“What happened was, I was called into the Bush Telegraph and apparently I lost consciousness for a little while. I just wasn’t feeling myself, they took me to a medical hut, they were amazing, they really looked after me and then they said, ‘you can’t go back’.
“I said, ‘don’t send me home, I’m sure I’ll be fine’, I jumped off a plane, I hung off a cliff and I did want to succeed. I wanted to make it through to the end.
“But that was the start of everything really, so it’s made me really emotional but I will beat this, I will beat it.”
Callard has had surgery to remove the cancer and is now undergoing a course of radiotherapy.
