Jamie Vardy and Rebekah Vardy for The Vardys / ITV
Former England stiker Jamie Vardy and his wife Rebekah Vardy are to star in their own reality show on ITV, it has been announced.
The Vardys comes seven years after the infamous ‘Wagatha Christie’ scandal that saw Coleen Rooney – wife of Jamie’s old teammate Wayne Rooney – accuse Rebekah of leaking stories about her to the press, claims she denied.
The show follows Rebekah, Jamie and their four kids as they move to Italy as he switches football clubs to the Serie A side Cremonense, based in the North of the country.
A synopsis reads: “With no-holds-barred, intimate access to the Vardys, this series follows all the drama and chaos of their new family adventure – from frantic house-hunts and tearful school searches, to unexpected disasters and dramatic setbacks, all while Jamie battles to prove his doubters wrong on the pitch at the age of 38, with Italian Serie A underdogs US Cremonese. It is a rollercoaster journey of resilience, fierce family bonds, and the promise of a new life.
“Witness the banter, the bickering and the sheer unpredictability of the Vardys as they navigate cultural clashes, forge new friendships, and make Italy their home. Can Jamie rekindle his underdog magic? Will Rebekah find peace and a new purpose away from the glare of the British tabloids? And will the Vardy family finally find their happily ever after?”
Louise Major, ITV’s commissioning editor for entertainment and reality, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with the Vardys on this series for ITV1 and ITVX. At a pivotal moment in their lives, this is a rare and revealing look behind the headlines – from the highs of Jamie’s football legacy to the realities of starting over as a family, with Rebekah sharing her reflections on one of the most talked-about stories of the last decade.”
The Vardys is due to go out on ITV1 and ITVX later in the year.
