A BBC insider has reportedly “debunked” a fan theory that all of the contestants on the current series of The Traitors entered the game in secret pairs.
Two connections have previously been revealed on the show – Faithfuls Judy and Roxy are in fact mother and daughter, while banished Faithful Ross is the boyfriend of Faithful Ellie.
Diehard fans have speculated that there may be more relationships to uncover, however – with the most outlandish theory suggesting that every contestant is connected to another somehow.
The theory was given more weight by the “family tree” map in the castle’s entrance, which depicts all of the players on branches of a tree, while the Latin caption on the map translates as: “Beware whom you trust as your own blood. The sharpest knives are often handed over the table by trusted servants. Among close friends lurk the most hidden enemies. Beware lest your trust become the cause of your ruin and destruction.”
Additionally, the show has featured several shots from the castle’s library, specifically a ‘Who’s Who’ book dated to 1936.
A source told The Mirror, however: “There are a lot of people barking up the wrong tree. It’s really interesting to see who the audience thinks might be related to who but, the truth is, they are going to be disappointed if they are expecting more connections down the line. They’re all out there now.”
Thirteen players remain in the game at the halfway point of the series, which continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
