How would you describe your style of cooking?
“I would describe my style of cooking as relaxed, hearty and comforting. I love unpretentious flavours and styles and making classical dishes that taste great. Creators like Jims Table, Julius Roberts and Ben Lippett have always inspired me. Italian or French cuisines are my favourite. I love the simplicity of Italian food and the traditional process of French. Growing up in the countryside has also made me appreciate local British food especially fish and game.”
What is your favourite ingredient to cook with and why?
“Pork, any cut any size, is one of my top ingredients. Pork for me is such a versatile ingredient and is so diverse in all its forms. Growing up in the countryside, we always had pork belly roasts, sausages and even some weird and wonderful cuts. It can be delicious seasoned with loads of different spices from around the world or even as it is with salt and pepper.”
Why did you enter MasterChef this year?
“I entered MasterChef to see what I was capable of. Food has always been a passion of mine but always a hobby. I wanted to see how far I could push myself and put my skills to the test. But above all else it was a massive bucket list pinch me moment. Nothing excites me or motivates me more than when I’m cooking. Entering MasterChef feels like one of those opportunities where if I never go for it, I’ll always regret it. I’m at a turning point in my life where life is getting pretty serious and as a life-long lover of MasterChef, this is my ‘just go for it’ moment and my chance to pursue my passion for cooking.”
MasterChef continues Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One.
