Marcus Wareing, Matt Tebbutt and Monica Galetti for MasterChef: The Professionals S18 / BBC
Matt Tebbutt has admitted that he was left “really upset” by his axe from MasterChef: The Professionals after just one series.
The presenter was brought in as a replacement for the sacked Gregg Wallace for the most recent edition of the show alongside mainstays Monica Galetti and Marcus Wareing.
However, during the series’ broadcast run it emerged that Tebbutt had been axed from the role for the next series, with Galetti and Wareing continuing on as a duo.
At the time Tebbutt insisted that he had only ever been brought on board for a single series but he now appears to have indicated that he was surprised not to be asked back for a second.
“It was, yes, of course it is [difficult],” he told Radio 4. “I mean, I’m not going to say I wasn’t upset. I was really upset. And it could have been handled a lot better. But it is what it is.”
He added: “You know, there’s worse things going on. You’ve got to be pretty resilient. It’s part of the game, really.
“I guess it’s like if you’re a politician, you’re going to get knocks. So it’s just par for the course, I think.”
Production of the new series of MasterChef: The Professionals is already underway for a planned broadcast at the end of the year.
