A third attempt to launch a successful US version of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is underway at streaming service Peacock.
The show remains a huge hit for ITV in the UK after 24 years on the air, while it is also a success in international markets such as Australia, Germany and Russia.
A US version has been attempted twice before – first by ABC in 2003 and then by NBC in 2009 – but was axed each time after just one season due to lacklustre ratings.
Peacock has now confirmed that it is developing a new version called just Get Me Out Of Here for broadcast in 2027, with The Traitors duo Maura Higgins and Rob Rausch hosting.
Peacock also airs the US version of Love Island, having persisted with middling ratings for the first few seasons to grow it into the most-streamed show in the States this Summer.
A synopsis for Get Me Out Of Here reads: “Tthe series is set in a dense and unforgiving jungle, pairing celebrities with a non-famous friend or family member in the ultimate test of friendship.
“Stripped of every luxury – and the perks, privileges, and creature comforts of celebrity – duos face a series of physical and psychological challenges, earning rewards to avoid elimination.
“But here, the celebrities don’t call the shots – instead, they must partner up, taking the lead or deferring to their bestie, all while the treacherous environment takes its toll.
“Relying on each other like never before, teams must navigate everything the jungle throws their way as their grit, stamina and resilience are pushed to the limit.”
The winners will pick up a $100,000 (£74,000) prize.
