Classic 1972 Doctor Who serial 'The Sea Devils' / BBC
The BBC has confirmed plans to air a new re-edited version of classic Doctor Who serial ‘The Sea Devils’ next month.
The 90-minute feature-length episode comes ahead of the broadcast of highly-anticipated new spinoff The War Between The Land and The Sea, which features the classic monsters in a battle against the human race.
First broadcast over six episodes in 1972, ‘The Sea Devils’ saw the Third Doctor – played by Jon Pertwee – encounter the ancient reptilian race for the first time in an adventure that also starred Katy Manning as companion Jo Grant and Roger Delgado as The Master.
The new condensed version contains an updated sound design by Mark Ayres and an enhanced score created by Lorne Balfe.
“52 years after they first rose from the depths, it’s Sea Devil night across the BBC!” said showrunner Russell T Davies. “A great idea never dies, and viewers young and old can now heed the warning: watch the seas!”
‘The Sea Devils’ will be available to stream on iPlayer from 6am on Sunday, December 7 and will air that night at 7pm on BBC Four, immediately before the double-episode premiere of The War Between The Land and The Sea on BBC One at 8.30pm.
