Sian Welby appearing on The Weakest Link / BBC
Presenter and radio host Sian Welby has emerged as a contender for one of the vacant hosting roles on Strictly Come Dancing.
The BBC is currently hunting for two new presenters of its flagship entertainment show following the departures of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman at the end of last year.
Multiple names have been linked with the roles, including Emma Willis, Bradley Walsh, Zoe Ball, Janette Manrara and Mel Giedroyc – the latter of whom has been tipped to take on Winkleman’s job in particular.
According to The Sun, however, Giedroyc faces competition from Welby, 39, host of Capital Breakfast and This Morning.
A source told the newspaper: “Sian might be less well-known than other names linked with Tess and Claudia’s jobs so far.
“But she’s got everything it takes with one special ingredient — a younger audience, thanks to her job on trendy Capital FM.
“Her live radio experience means she’s got that off-the-cuff banter that is needed in the Clauditorium down to a tee.
“And working on This Morning ticks all the TV boxes. Execs have looked at her as someone who would be a good fit for the job.”
An official announcement is expected by the BBC in the coming months.
