Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams as Ilya Rosanov and Shane Hollander in Heated Rivalry S01E04 / Crave
Sky has confirmed the acquisition of the rights to the highly-anticipated second season of gay ice hockey drama Heated Rivalry.
The drama, starring Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, has been a cultural hit around the globe since its release – originally low-key on Canadian streamer Crave – late last year.
A second season was quickly ordered by Crave and new partner HBO in the US, although showrunner Jacob Tierney recently revealed that it is at least a year away from premiering.
Sky picked up the rights to the show in the UK and Ireland in January and made the entire first season available for streaming – and has now confirmed that it has the first-run rights to season two too, despite the impending launch of HBO Max in the UK and Ireland.
The broadcaster has also acquired the rights to Crave’s mystery thriller YAGA with Carrie-Ann Moss, crime drama Superfakes and horror comedy The ‘Burbs starring Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall.
Katie Keenan, Sky’s director of acquisitions, said: “We’re proud to unveil this slate of new premium dramas, each offering bold, distinctive and world-class storytelling for our customers.
“The return of global hit Heated Rivalry to Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland will be a must-watch next year, and we cannot wait for audiences to see YAGA, Superfakes, The ‘Burbs and PONIES – all joining an already stellar line-up of unmissable TV.”
