The X Factor / ITV
Sky is reportedly developing a three-part documentary that promises to be the definitive story of The X Factor phenomenon.
The music competition – devised by Simon Cowell – ran on ITV from 2004 to 2018, making stars of the likes of One Direction, Leona Lewis, JLS and Little Mix.
According to The Sun, Cowell himself is in “advanced talks” about giving his version of events for the show, while many of the key participants involved – judges, contestants and those behind the camera – are also being approached.
“This will be a definitive, premium series about a true entertainment TV juggernaut,” a source told the newspaper.
“Those closest to the story will be approached to be in the show, both in front of and behind the camera, and discussions are ongoing.
“It follows on from Sky Docs’ history of authentic and unfiltered documentaries, notably the recent Boyzone biopic.
“The doc has yet to be fully greenlit, despite now being at an advanced stage of development, but persuading Simon to take part could be the final piece of the jigsaw.”
After dominating the schedules for almost two decades, the format was “rested” by ITV in 2018 amid declining ratings.
