How did you react when you found out you would be taking part in this year’s show?
“Like so many bakers, I dreamed of entering the Bake Off tent, but my journey took an unexpected path. I didn’t make the final 12, but I was offered a place as a standby baker. While I was disappointed, I was also proud to have come so far and had already started thinking about trying again the following year.
“As the deadline approached, I accepted that it probably wasn’t going to happen. I genuinely believed the chances of being called were incredibly slim, so I moved on and put it to the back of my mind. Then everything changed with one phone call. When I was told that a place had become available and that I could take part, I was completely speechless. The news felt surreal, and for a while I couldn’t quite process what I was hearing.
“I kept checking that it was real because it seemed too good to be true. When the reality finally sank in, I felt overwhelming joy, gratitude, and excitement. It was a dream come true and a moment I will never forget.”
As a group, what are this year’s bakers like?
“We all met for the very first time in the hotel restaurant, and it felt quite surreal. Here we were, a group of complete strangers brought together by our love of baking, yet it felt as though we had known each other forever. From the moment we sat down, the conversation just flowed. We did not stop talking, laughing, and getting to know one another. It was an incredibly special moment and the beginning of some wonderful friendships.
“If I had to choose a few words to describe this year’s bakers, I would say they were inspiring, supportive, and authentic. Every single person brought their own unique personality, background, and baking style to the tent. What struck me most was how willing everyone was to embrace one another, learn about each other’s lives, and share their own stories.
“By the end, we were not just a group of bakers. We had become a Bake Off family, and that is something I will always treasure.”
How was it having Nigella as part of the show?
“It truly felt as though we were sharing this first-time experience together, and no matter what happened, we knew it was going to be something special. Being part of her journey on The Great British Bake Off was a privilege, and in turn, she became part of our journey too.”
Describe your baking style in three words!
“Adventurous, fun, and nostalgic.”
The Great British Bake Off returns Tuesday, September 22 at 8pm on Channel 4.
