Sir Tom Jones has reportedly stepped down as one of the main coaches on The Voice for its 2027 series.
Speculation over the coach lineup for the 2027 series – to be filmed, as usual, a year in advance – has been rife in recent weeks, with rumours speculating that Cheryl will be joining the panel alongside will.i.am and Kelly Rowland.
Aitch is thought to have signed up to replace coaching duo Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones – and according to The Sun, Sir Tom, 86, is stepping down to leave the number of coaches at four.
The Welsh crooner has been part of the panel alongside will.i.am since the show started in 2012, save for the 2016 series, when he was dropped by the BBC but then reinstated by ITV when it took over as broadcaster in 2017.
Despite Jones dropping out as a main coach, the newspaper says that producers are hoping to integrate him into the new series in a “different capacity” at some point during the process.
“Everyone loves Sir Tom but there was a feeling that the upcoming series needed a major refresh,” a source said. “With Aitch and Cheryl coming on board and Kelly returning with will.i.am, there just wasn’t a seat going.”
They added: “Everyone is sad to see Tom go. Right now talks are ongoing about how he can be involved in the series in a smaller capacity. Sir Tom adores the show and finding new talent and still wanted to be involved.”
An official announcement is expected imminently, with filming of the blind auditions due to get underway in Manchester this Friday,
