GB News has said that it overtook both BBC News and Sky News for the first time in the live ratings for July.
Across the full-day hours of 6am to 2am, GB News averaged 80,610 (1.34%) viewers across the month, with the BBC second on 78,650 (1.3%) and Sky in third on 67,000 (1.11%).
The broadcaster – launched in 2021 – has been steadily growing its average share in recent months, although it still consistently lags in terms of average reach, which measures the number of different viewers tuning in, suggesting that GB News has a smaller but more loyal fanbase.
Ben Briscoe, head of programming at GB News, said: “This is a seismic moment, not just for us, but for British broadcasting.
“We are ending the dominance of the BBC News Channel and Sky News. And there’s more to come. Starting in September, GB News will expand its programming with the launch of a brand new show from Washington DC, taking our coverage to an even wider audience.”
GB News currently airs live from 6am to midnight every day, with repeats overnight, although the launch of the new US show in September will extend those hours until 2am.
