Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has sparked concern from followers after live-streaming what appeared to be an incident of self-harm on TikTok.
In the stream, which has now been deleted, the 48-year-old showed himself fully naked in bed apparently covered in blood and multiple lacerations all over his body, including his face.
Hilton, who memorably appeared on Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2015, then moved to another room and appeared to cut his chest and rear with a knife, at one point asking: “Why am I not dead yet?”
Shocked followers contacted police, with a statement from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office subsequently confirming that they had investigated the situation and decided to ‘de-escalate’ in order to “reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter”.
It read: “The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls regarding an individual who was live-streaming acts of self-harm on social media. Deputies quickly located the individual’s residence, where they spoke with family members on scene, and confirmed he was alone inside.
“In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication.
“Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public.
“At this time, deputies have tactically disengaged while continuing to monitor the situation.”
A statement from his agents issued to TMZ read: “We are aware of the concerning content circulating online involving our client, Perez Hilton.
“At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him. Our primary concern is Perez’s health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family. Until we have confirmed information, we will not speculate or comment further.
“We appreciate everyone’s concern and ask that his privacy be respected during this time.”
The status of Hilton, who has three young children via surrogate, is currently unknown.
