Coronation Street legend Simon Gregson has signed a new one-year deal with the soap.
The 51-year-old, who has been on the cobbles since 1989, is thought to have put pen to paper on a new agreement worth around £150,000 over the next 12 months.
The news comes as Gregson looks to pay off a reported debt of £252,000 over a three-year period in order to avoid having to sell his family home.
A source said: “Simon is delighted to be staying on Corrie and show bosses are equally as happy to keep him on the cobbles. It’s a win-win situation.”
On screen, Steve is involved in a major new storyline that will see him discover that Ben (Aaron McCusker) is actually his half-brother, while in the coming months he will also have to contend with the departure of girlfriend Cassie (Claire Sweeney).
