Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has said that her character Lisa’s relationship with Carla (Alison King) is going from strength to strength.
The fan-favourite couple – shipped as “Swarla” – are at the heart of life in Weatherfield, with Lisa maintaining law and order through her role in the police and Carla running the street’s main employer, Underworld.
The pair live at No.6 with their family, including Lisa’s daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) and Carla’s de-facto nephew Ryan (Ryan Prescott).
Gushing about the setup, Myers told the Radio Times: “You’ve got Ryan, who’s just so beautiful, and he’s had his problems and struggles, and the way that he is very much like a sibling/uncle to Betsy. Carla loves Betsy as her own, which leaves us extremely grateful. And then obviously the dynamic between Ryan and Lisa, and the love between Lisa and Carla.
“Then you’ve got the extended family. You’ve got David Neilson (Roy). Legend. Oh my goodness. It’s just really beautiful. That’s the only reason why [Lisa] married [Carla], really.”
Swarla’s happy homelife was recently thrown a curveball when Betsy suffered a shock stroke, but Myers believes the trauma has only served to bring them closer together.
“They fundamentally love and respect each other,” she added to Metro. “Carla has looked after her daughter and we all know for Lisa that Betsy is her everything.
“So for their relationship to blossom as it has done since the wedding, I think it’s really beautiful and they’re getting stronger and stronger.
“I know we’ve not seen that much of them onscreen lately but while they were away that bond has got stronger and deeper.”
