Peter Rose – known for his work directing the UK’s biggest soaps – has died, a friend has announced.
The TV veteran began his career in the ’80s working on Howards’ Way before going on to direct almost every UK soap – including Brookside, Emmerdale, EastEnders, Coronation Street, Family Affairs, Crossroads and Holby City.
Friend Harry Duffin broke the news on Facebook, writing: “It is very sad to say that a great friend of ours, Peter Rose has died last weekend,’ he wrote.
“I met him when we worked together on HOWARDS WAY in the 1980s. He was a director and I was script editor. He went on to direct for CORONATION STREET, EASTENDERS and EMMERDALE until last year. Even though we left London we stayed friends together and met whenever we could.
“His partner, Mick Cawson and Peter spent holidays at our villa when we lived in Spain. He was a lovely man, and Chris and I will miss him very much.”
One of Rose’s most famous scenes involved Corrie’s Deidre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) throwing a trifle at the wall in 2014, earning him a nomination at the British Soap Awards.
Rose’s final credit was the New Year’s Day episode of Emmerdale in 2025.
