Singer-songwriter Neil Sedaka has died at the age of 86 after falling ill on Friday morning, it has been announced.
In a career spanning almost 70 years, Sedaka had hits with the likes of ‘Breaking Up Is Hard To Do’ and ‘Laughter In The Rain’, while in his songwriting guise he penned songs such as ‘(Is This The Way To) Amarillo’ and ‘Stupid Cupid’.
Reports surfaced early on Friday that he had been taken by ambulance to hospital in Los Angeles, where he has since died.
A family statement read: “Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Neil Sedaka.
“A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed.”
Sedaka is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leba, and their two children.
