GB News secured another two victories at the TRIC Awards at the annual ceremony in London on Tuesday night.
The young journalist – the channel’s national reporter – was named Best News Presenter, beating established names including Susanna Reid, Dan Walker and Fiona Bruce to the title.
Peters has come to prominence over the last year, earning plaudits for his in-depth reporting on the grooming gangs scandal – helping to force Prime Minister Keir Starmer into a U-turn by holding a national enquiry into the matter.
Meanwhile GB News’ Breakfast show – hosted by a team including Eamonn Holmes, Ellie Costello, Stephen Dixon and Anne Diamond – was named Best News Programme for the third year in a row.
“It feels sensational, obviously,” Peters said. “The great joy of this is that I cover a really horrible story, for the most part; the abuse gang scandal, the grooming and exploitation and to be rewarded for the difference this channel has made on that issue means so much.
“This inquiry being launched… I’m very confident in saying now that it wouldn’t have happened without this channel. GB News has fearlessly engaged with the issue and given it the prominence it truly deserved.”
GB News Head of Programming Ben Briscoe added: “GB News Breakfast is the fastest growing breakfast show in the UK. Now it’s defined itself as Britain’s favourite morning news programme.
“It’s fiery, fearless and always entertaining. Eamonn, Ellie, Anne and Stephen provide a disruptive and entertaining alternative in the morning. I am so proud of the team that works tirelessly everyday.
“Charlie’s award is a powerful tribute to his relentless reporting on issues others have too often ignored. His journalism has brought truth, accountability, and above all, hope.”
