Irish broadcaster RTÉ has confirmed that it is boycotting the Eurovision Song Contest again in 2027 over Israel’s continued participation.
Together with Spain, the Netherlands, Iceland and Slovenia, Ireland chose not to send an artist to this year’s competition in Vienna due to the ongoing war in Gaza.
With the conflict still active, RTÉ has announced that it will not select a representative for 2027, nor will it broadcast the contest.
A statement said: “RTÉ is today confirming that its position regarding participation in the Eurovision Song Contest remains unchanged. RTÉ will not participate in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, nor will RTÉ broadcast the competition.
“RTÉ feels that Ireland’s participation cannot be justified given the appalling and ongoing loss of lives in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there which continues to put the lives of so many civilians at risk.
“RTÉ also remains deeply concerned by the continued denial of independent access to international journalists to the territory.”
Eurovision 2027 is due to be staged from May 11 to 15 in Burgas, Bulgaria.
