Ratings for ITV's daytime programmes rise amid coronavirus outbreak

ITV's daytime output gets a ratings boost as the coronavirus outbreak forces more people to stay at home.

Ratings for ITV's daytime output have risen by more than 25% this week as coronavirus forces increasing numbers of the British public to stay and work from home.

Good Morning Britain logged its fourth highest ratings ever on Tuesday with an average of 984,000 viewers and a 23% audience share between 6am and 9am. Piers Morgan's regular co-host Susanna Reid has been forced into self-isolation at home but still managed to feature in the show via webcam.

On Wednesday, ratings for Lorraine were up 23% year on year, while This Morning was up 70% and Loose Women an impressive 76%.

ITV's news output has also been boosted by the coronavirus crisis, with yesterday's lunchtime bulletin drawing 1.6m, its highest audience in over five years, and the regional news bulletin rising to 4.2m.

Late night political magazine show Peston enjoyed its best ever Wednesday ratings, with an average of 1.0m (13%) tuning in from 10.45pm.
