Tom Cruise on the set of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning / Paramount Pictures
Tom Cruise has been announced for a “special appearance” at the World Cup final in New Jersey on Sunday.
The huge game will kick off at 8pm BST (3pm local) and feature a half-time show, designed to emulate the Super Bowl, with performances from Madonna, BTS and Shakira.
Before kickoff a ‘closing ceremony’ will be staged in the stadium from 6.30pm BST (1.30pm local) with a mixture of performances and guest appearances, including A-list movie star Cruise.
Also on the bill are Robbie Williams, Italian singer Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger and online influencer IShowSpeed. Jennifer Hudson will also perform the US national anthem ahead of the game.
Heimo Schirgi, COO of the World Cup, said: “Echoing the spirit of the opening ceremonies, which welcomed the world to the greatest stage in Canada, Mexico and the United States, the closing ceremony will bring the FIFA World Cup 2026 full circle through music, culture and football, before we kick off the highly anticipated match that will crown the champions of this groundbreaking tournament.”
The final will be contested between three-time winners Argentina, who defeated England last night, and 2010 champions Spain.
