Jon Snow for Channel 4 News
Broadcasting veteran Jon Snow has revealed that he has been battling with Alzheimer’s disease for the last four years.
The journalist, who has more then 50 years of experience in the industry, is best known as Channel 4 News‘ longest-serving presenter, racking up 32 years behind the newsdesk from 1989 to 2021.
Having retired in December 2021, Snow fell into a “deep depression” and the following year, his wife of 40 years Dr. Precious Lunga – an expert in neuroscience – noticed changes in his memory, according to the Daily Mail.
“Friends kept asking me if Jon was all right and I would have to lie and say he’s fine, but I knew he wasn’t,” Lunga told the newspaper, adding: “He was given what’s called a mini-mental state exam and he aced it. He got 29 out of 30.
“It was only later, when they did a brain scan, that we got a diagnosis.”
Snow’s diagnosis and its impact has been documented in the one-off piece Jon Snow: A Last Big Story, airing on Channel 4 at 8pm on Saturday, June 20.
