Brother duo VAEB have won Söngvakeppnin and will represent Iceland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The pair – Matti and Bubbi – were one of six acts competing in the final of the national selection contest, where the voting was split 50-50 between the international jury and the public.
The siblings and their song ‘RÓA’ were comfortable victors on the night, topping both sides of the voting, and will now make the trip to Basel, Switzerland in May.
Iceland have never triumphed at Eurovision, managing second-place finishes in 1999 and 2009 – although they were the heavy favourites to win in 2020 with Dadi Freyr, although the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
