Gollum in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey / New Line
Kate Winslet has reportedly been cast as “the female lead” in the upcoming movie The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt For Gollum.
The new film is the first of at least two new instalments in the LOTR franchise, with Peter Jackson returning to oversee the project and Andy Serkis reprising his role as Gollum.
Sir Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood are heavily rumoured – but not officially confirmed – to be back as Gandalf and Frodo respectively, while Deadline now reports that Titanic actress Winslet is also on board in an undisclosed but major role.
The movie is based on footnotes from JRR Tolkien’s work and is set between the events of The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.
Filming of The Hunt For Gollum is due to take place in New Zealand between May and October this year, with a release pencilled in for December 17, 2027.
