Coronation Street x Emmerdale crossover aka Corriedale / ITV
Coronation Street and Emmerdale have assembled a separate production unit to work on the upcoming crossover episode.
Both soaps will come together for the first time in January 2026 for an “ambitious stunt” that will see characters from Weatherfield and the Dales interact on screen.
The special episode will kickstart a new scheduling pattern for both shows, dubbed a “soaps power hour” that will see them air back to back every weeknight in the 8pm hour.
Details of the plot and the characters involved have been kept under wraps, although ITV has revealed that the stunt will have repercussions that play out in both soaps – and that characters will leave and arrive as a result.
According to The Sun, the broadcaster is going to extreme lengths to keep the episode top secret and has established a separate team, away from both productions, to develop and film the storyline.
A source told the newspaper: “Every precaution has been taken for the event that’s set to begin filming later this month.
“Only the actors involved have been told what’s to come and sworn to secrecy. It’s practically unheard of to go to these lengths but bosses desperately want viewers to be surprised. The others have been left totally in the dark.”
Viewers will also be able to vote online in the coming weeks to select a character from each soap to share a scene in the episode.
