Country music legend Kenny Rogers dies at the age of 81 of "natural causes".

Country music legend Kenny Rogers has died at the age of 81, his family have announced.

In a career lasting more than 60 years, Rogers became one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 100m albums sold worldwide.

'The Gambler' won him a Grammy in 1978, while his duet with Dolly Parton on 'Islands in the Stream' in 1983 earned him global admiration.

A statement posted to Rogers's Twitter account read: "The Rogers family is sad to announce that Kenny Rogers passed away last night at 10:25PM at the age of 81. Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family."

The statement added that the family are planning "a small private service" due to the coronavirus outbreak but intend to celebrate "Kenny's life publicly with his friends and fans at a later date".
