Clive Davis, one of the biggest names in the music industry, has died at the age of 94.
In a statement, his agent announced that the record executive had “passed away peacefully from age-related illness” at his home in Manhattan on Monday.
During his career Davis was renowned for spotting and signing new artists who went on to big things, including Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Santana, Aerosmith, Billy Joel and Ace of Base.
News of his death comes a month after he was hospitalised for a few days for “respiratory” issues, although he was subsequently said to be “in good spirits” and recuperating at home.
A statement from his family read: “To the world, our father was the iconic music legend whose vision, instincts, and relentless pursuit of excellence shaped the soundtrack of countless lives. He discovered, mentored, and championed the greatest artists in modern music history, leaving an indelible mark on culture that will endure for generations.
“To his family, Clive was Dad and Granddaddy, the steady presence at the center of our lives, the the source of wisdom, strength, encouragement, and unconditional love. No matter how extraordinary his professional accomplishments, he never lost sight of what mattered most: the people he loved.”
Davis, who came out as bisexual at the age of 80, was twice divorced and is survived by four children and eight grandchildren.
