Farming For Love / CTV
ITV is to bring back dating format Farmer Wants A Wife under the new name Farming For Love, it has been announced.
The show follows a group of farmers as they date potential love interests from the city with the hopes of settling down.
ITV originated the format with one series in 2001, with a revived version also running for one series on Channel 5 in 2009.
The show failed to generate significant ratings for either broadcaster but went on to be a hit internationally, with the Australian version having run for 13 seasons to date and the US adaptation currently airing on FOX.
Now, following the success of Clarkson’s Farm on Prime Video, Our Dream Farm with Matt Baker on Channel 4 and numerous farming programmes on 5, ITV has decided to give the show another go with a new six-part series.
A synopsis says that the programme will follow “a group of single farmers on a quest to find their perfect match. Shining a light on modern British farming life, the show offers them the chance to find genuine romance in settings as authentic as they are. Farmers select potential partners from applications and invite them to move onto the farm, where they must experience the realities of rural life first-hand.
“Living and working together, the couples discover whether love can truly take root beyond the romance. At the end of the journey, each farmer must make the ultimate decision – choosing the person they believe could truly ‘be the one’ – proving that love really can grow where you least expect it.”
Nicola Lloyd, creative director at production company Naked TV, said: “Farming has never been more popular but finding love while running a farm remains a real challenge. Farming for Love has all the heart, humour and authenticity that make a great dating show, and I’m thrilled we will be helping people find love this time on British farms.”
Applications to appear on the show are open online now until April 24.
